A magen david composed of the 22 letters of the Hebrew aleph-bet.
Sefer Yetzirah, the ancient Book of Formation, teaches:
“Twenty-Two Letters—He carved them, and hewed them, and weighed them, and exchanged them, and combined them, and formed with them the soul of every formed being and the soul of every being He has yet to form.”
In the Talmud (Berakhot 55a) we learn:
“Rav Yehuda said that Rav said: Betzalel knew how to join the letters with which heaven and earth were created.”
Betzalel was the chief craftsman responsible for building the Mishkan with which the Children of Israel wandered and worshiped in the desert. Tradition says that his creative mastery was a result of understanding that Divine blueprint of Creation itself was the 22 Hebrew letters. Through the Tabernacle that Betzalel built, the people were able to connect with their Creator.
My intention in making this piece was that it should offer a sense of connection and protection, a feeling that all of creation is conspiring to shield and support you.
This piece is hand-written, and one of a kind.
